Make your home feel like a cottage with these four easy tips that offer comfort, coziness, and a home-y feel to your home you will love.
I don’t know what style my home is, but it has a little cottage in it. My home has a mixture of farmhouse, French country and English country, and just a tad bit of modern.
The most important thing is cozy. The second is that it is me–it is a mix of everything I like and everything that makes me feel comfortable. And, I think that is so important in your home.
Soft, lived in comfort, and to me, that sounds like cottage-style.
A cottage can be thought of as a small house. Most people think of a cottage as being an older home. We tend to imagine a cottage as a modest, often cozy dwelling, typically in a rural or semi-rural location. I think English or French country fits perfectly in a cottage.
Nothing can quite compare to the coziness that a cottage can offer. There’s something about the warm tones and the welcoming atmosphere that really makes you feel at home. It’s now easier than ever for you to create that own look for your property, and here’s how you do it.
The Kitchen
The kitchen will most likely be the hub of your home, so why not make it that bit more comfortable?
The changes you need to make here are very simple. You need to opt for painted cabinets, soft fabrics and even cool colors. Rustic appliances can go a long way here, so if you have the budget then don’t be afraid to splash a bit to bring the whole room together.
Open shelving, glass jars for storage, bread boards, wooden spoons, and plants. If you want some more ideas, add egg baskets and wooden bread bins, ideal for decorating the space with practicality in mind.
The Outdoors
Cottages seem to have a natural connection with the garden. Try and have greenery dotted throughout the home, and stick with the theme for your outdoor space as well. I love potted plants and flowers on my patio. They bring the home-y look outside. Along with plants, I have patio furniture with pillows and throws to add to the comfy, cozy vibe.
If you know me, you know I have green plants and fresh flowers throughout my home, as well. Both real and faux. Place a large plant on either side of the back door, and also have a hanging trellis full of beautiful flowers.
Indoor plants will bridge the gap between the outdoors and indoors, not to mention that you can even put some fresh flowers on your dining table, too. I love flowers! They say welcome to my home!
The Bedroom
Your bedroom is the most personal space you have in your entire home, so why not utilize that to create something really special? Get some feather pillows, plenty of comforters and always use soft colors.

To decorate the room, consider investing in some gold décor items, antiques, or wicker baskets. Wildlife art is also a great choice, but make sure that it flows with the theme of the house.
