Fall has many aspects. Fall has many feels. Fall means many things to me–pumpkins, fall weather, fall candles, and football.
In my blog series for #write31days writing challenge, titled Thirty-One Days Of Fall Feels, I have written about the sights, tastes and all the fall feels. I even covered the smells of Fall in my post about fall candles.
Today, I am thinking about the sounds of fall.
As I sit in front of my computer, blank screen, thinking what I will write today for the writing challenge, I hear football in the background.
Football, in my family, is fall. My husband loves football. I do not. But, I love my husband and what makes him happy, makes me happy.
“For many sports fans, the onset of fall only means one thing: It’s football season!” -Marcus Samuelsson
Football is family.
When my son, Alex, was young, we were at peewee football games on Saturdays, watching him play and watching my daughter, Cameron, cheer. This continued on all the way through high school. The days switched as they got older, ending on Friday nights. He played, she cheered. I loved watching them. Those were special days. Special moments of our life.
Fall is football. Football is fall.
If there was ever a time I enjoyed football, it was when my kids were involved, playing and cheering.
When Alex attended Baylor and Cameron was at Texas Tech, the Baylor vs. Tech game was always fun. It made me nervous as a mother because someone would lose. Both of our daughters attended Tech. My husband and son went to Baylor. I was neutral ground because I graduated from UTA. Many friends and family members went to Baylor, also. I always felt my Red Raiders were outnumbered. I always wore red and black because of this.
One year, my husband made the biggest gesture of all by wearing red and black. To the tailgate. In the game, he wore his green and gold.

In the fall, the sound of football has always been in the background. Either we have been at the game watching live football or football is on TV, at someone’s house or at a bar. It’s always there.
Football consumes the sounds in the fall.
I can’t imagine a fall without the sound of football.
It is as much fall as pumpkins.
The sound of football used to be louder than it is now, but our life is always scheduled around football in the fall. Our life schedule revolves around the Baylor game and the Cowboy game. In our thirty years of marriage, we are either at the game, at a bar watching the game or the game is on at our house.
This is part of my life and I accepted it long ago. If I had not, how miserable would my life be?
Marriage is compromise. And football makes him happy; completes him. He completes me.
When our kids were young, my husband traveled more. I still turned the game on. Listening (never watching). It would be weird without the sounds of football on in the background. I think it would make me sad.
So, life in the fall is football. Football is fall. Football is comfort. Football is home. Football is family. Football is love. Football is fall.
I hope for you the sounds of comfort this fall.
love and blessings~dd
