Start the deep cleaning NOW
If you are hosting guests, overnight or for a party, you probably need to deep clean your house and prepare for their arrival.
Deep cleaning your house before the holidays is a great idea for anyone, even if you won’t be entertaining at Thanksgiving, or during the Christmas season. But, it is really important for the host and hostess to get holiday-ready and have a clean, organized home.
Make a schedule and do some big items now and throughout the remainder of the fall. Items like cleaning blinds, having carpets cleaned, ceiling fans, deep clean your refrigerator, and your garage (yikes, we need to do this!).
Cleaning your baseboards, a fresh coat of paint, or any repairs you might need, could and should be started now. If you are doing any updating to your home, do it now. This will alleviate a lot of stress and backache before you entertain. Not to mention more financial burden.
Getting your home holiday-ready will be easier if you start NOW!
Get your kitchen ready NOW
Besides deep cleaning your kitchen, you need to think about big purchase items you might need before you entertain. Items such as an electric knife, a new crockpot, serving spoons, new dishes, any cooking items, or new pots and pans.
Stemware and glassware are also big items you may need when serving others. Purchase those now and save yourself later. Think about how you will decorate your table for your party, Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. Buy the needed items now to get holiday-ready.
Buying these items now, or a few here and there before Thanksgiving or Christmas can alleviate more financial stress.
Remember you will also have the added finances for food, presents, and decorations, so getting started on any, or all, of these purchases, now will help you later.
Entertaining is expensive but so wonderful. I love having my family and friends over for any reason. It is so joyful at the holidays and being a good hostess means being prepared. Being a good hostess also comes with a price—financially and stressfully.

Great tips! I could definitely use a few of these myself – like starting to shop now and certainly a good cleaning of the kitchen! I can’t help but procrastinate though and then stress at the last minute! Luckily, I am not hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas this year!

Great tips! I do start shopping early so I can spread my budget across a few months. I also do my “spring” cleaning in the fall instead of the spring for this very reason. Such great ways to reduce stress. Spot on with this article!
