February’s Weenteam Wednesday picture book reviews are close to my heart, and I hope they will pull at your heartstrings, too.
February’s Weenteam Wednesday picture book reviews were bright funny, and I wish I had come up with the idea.
I read a lot of picture books. Reading helps me develop my voice and teaches me about story arcs and so much more. I don’t have kids or grandkids, so I read aloud to my Weenteam, Charli, and Martha!
While I was reading picture books, I thought I should tell you about the ones that touched my heart. Or make me giggle. So, in January, I started Weenteam Wednesday Picture Book Reviews every Wednesday on my Instagram. In addition, I will post all four reviews on my blog on the last Wednesday of the month.
Here are February’s Weenteam Wednesday picture book reviews…

I don’t have a dog.I have a best friend.
Tess and I met in Austin at BookPeople three years ago. Through a mutual kidlit friend. When we found out we lived close, we planned our meeting.
She had just gotten her book deal, and I had just started on this kidlit journey. I was in AHHH! Later that summer, we paled around the LA SCBWI conference for a week and became fast friends. We support each other, and I genuinely love her.
HOW TO SPOT a BEST FRIEND
HOW TO SPOT A BEST FRIEND left me with chills, and that’s how I know this is a good book. The illustrations are cheery and lovely. You follow a little girl as she excitedly walks to the first day of school with her mom and as SHE explains to her mom how she will find her best friend. It’s a must-read friend story and a must-read first day of school story. It’s A must-read!!
A BEST friend lends you a brand-new, extra-sharp green crayon. Even if you’re drawing a tree with 3,811 green leaves.
CIRCLE UNDER BERRY
The third picture book we reviewed in February was This week’s Weenteam Wednesday picture book review is, CIRCLE UNDER BERRY, written and illustrated by Carter Higgins (a Chronicle Kids Books).
CIRCLE UNDER BERRY is a bright, simple book that teaches so many concepts you can’t keep up!
It is full of shapes, colors, prepositions, oh my!
Carter Higgin’s book is a perfect addition to your board book bookstack, but it is also ideal for the older picture book child who is still learning and honing concepts.
The Weenteam particularly liked the rectangle page!
But they loved all the pages so much, so they gave CIRCLE UNDER BERRY eight paws UP!????
SQUISH SQUASH SQUISHED
SQUISH SQUASH SQUISHED is written by Rebecca Kraft Rector and illustrated by Dana Wulfekotte. (published by Nancy Paulson Books, 2021)
So fun to read with all the silly language! This funny story is a re-read and reminded me of my brother and me when we were young. This mother was a bit clever in resolving the sibling rivalry.
And the illustrations are delightful and will cause giggles throughout the book.
The Weenteam knows all about sibling rivalry and being squished. Martha loves to snuggle. Charli—not so much! “Scoot over, Martha!”
Of course, the Weenteam’s favorite line is “Squish squash squished!” because it’s fun to say.
They also loved the puppies!
So, the Weenteam gives SQUISH SQUASH SQUISHED eight paws UP for giggles!????
