Getting to know me-questions and answers for the Blue Sky Tag Challenge

This is a getting to know me post. I will give you some insight about why I blog and how I got started.  I also will tell you some of my hopes and dreams.

(Are you singing that to yourself now?) While you are getting to know me, I will be showing you some of my favorite blue skies because blue skies just happen to be one of my favorite things in the world! Coincidentally, the name of the challenge-Blue Sky Tag!

I was nominated in the blogging challenge called Blue Sky Tag by another writer/ blogger and friend, Anna Kat Napier of Victoria Lee Home. Anna is an interior designer and writes about  life and decorating.

Pleased to accept, I told Anna yes. She sent me the questions to answer and I happily answered them. She asked some questions I had to think long and hard about.  Thanks, Anna.

Here we go…

1.  When did you realize you had talent as a writer?

I am still trying to figure this one out. I know I love writing and I pray for God to give me my words. I started writing three and a half years ago. I was asked by a friend to write an article and try to get it published in our Waco paper. Although terrified due to never, ever, writing or publishing anything, I accepted the challenge. I wrote the article. The paper published it and the writing bug was born. I am now fully diseased and there is no cure!

2.  If you weren’t working as a blogger/writer, what career would you have?

I was a wife and a mom of three children for years. (I still am, thankfully!) That was my job and it is the one I am still most proud to claim. When my kids were in high school, I worked in our high school office. I enjoyed working and loved the people I worked with, but did not really enjoy what I did. I worked for six years before I started writing. I can’t think of anything I want to do or will ever do as long as I am able to write. I honestly never thought I would be a writer, so I am kinda living my dream now.

3.  Who inspires you the most?

Years ago, I used to say authors like Danielle Steel and Nicolas Sparks (that’s the type of books I want to write someday, soon!). I think it is probably bloggers that inspire me at the moment. People like Dannielle Alphonse (from Be You and Thrive), Chris from Miss Parfaite, and Mia of My Chaotic Life.

 

4.  What is the favorite city you have traveled to?

L O N D O N !! I have been twice and it would be a dream come true to live there for six months. I would love to absorb the city and its people. Wouldn’t that be fun? We could travel all over Europe. My husband and I love to travel and see new places.

5.  What are your goals for 2018?

Well, I have given myself until January to start my novel. So, I suppose getting started on a novel would be my goal. And, to continue to be published in magazines and drive more traffic to my blog!

 

6.  What is your hope for your readers?

I am always hopeful my readers will read my words. I am also hopeful that while reading my words, they feel inspired, they feel less alone, they know not everyone is perfect so they don’t have to be. I hope they smile. I hope they might see the world differently, not in rose-colored glasses, but clear and beautiful–the way God made this world. There is beauty and joy in everything.

7. If you could meet one blogger, who would it be?

Chris of Miss Parfaite.  We chat online and I am enjoying getting to know her. Chris lives in Paris with her sweet Tallulah, her little French Bulldog. I would love to sit at a sidewalk café for hours with her, talking and drinking wine and champagne (and probably some coffee!)

8.  If a movie was made about your life, who would be cast to play you?

Hard one. Probably Molly Shannon. I am a lighthearted-make fun of myself, kind of girl. She would probably be silly enough. (I don’t sniff my underarms though. Thankfully.)

9.  What other creative talent do you have?

I can cook, I suppose. I like to decorate my house. I can plant a mean container garden, and last year, I grew the most beautiful pumpkins that were self-pollinated by me! (it’s a thing, it’s not gross and you can read more here!)

10.  Name one affirmation you recite to yourself daily?

My mantra, since I started writing, is Over the Edge. It causes me to take chances, be brave and to get out of my comfort zone. (Read all about this mantra and how I latched on to it here)

11.  If you could eliminate one disease, which would it be?

Selfishly, I would like to say Psoriatic Arthritis, because I have it and deal with the pain daily, but I won’t pick that. There is a disease that is far worse–cancer. It scares me. Daily. It has touched my father and my niece; I am blessed to say they are both survivors. I have several friends who are also survivors. Sadly, I have lost one great friend to cancer and both of my grandmothers lost their life to cancer. It is a horrible disease.
