Happiness is a choice. We must decide every morning to be happy, or not to be. Choosing to be happy will make or break your day. What did you choose today?
Happiness is an interesting idea, isn’t it? Because a lot of time, you’re going to find that it’s hard to be happy. Happiness is a choice.
Bad, horrible things happen to us. To all of us. And yes, we all get down, and we have to deal with our problems. But, if you choose to wade in what’s wrong with your life, happiness will not come to you.
When something goes wrong in my life, I have to take a moment; sometimes I need a day. Then I have to decide to waller in my mood, or look for the positives, put my big girl pants on, and figure out how to turn my frown upside down.
Sometimes people choose to be miserable. Instead of looking for the good in life and really working on living a happy life, sometimes we’re all too welcoming of things that get in the way. Stress, anger, resentment, poor choices, negativity – LIFE! All of it walks into our lives without us putting up a fight.
So, fight. Choose happy, choose to smile and choose kindness. You must choose a life full of sunshine and flowers, even if you have to make your own sunshine.
If you choose to be happy, to be positive, to smile—happiness will find its way to your heart and the smile will be automatic. The sunshine will follow. You won’t have to choose; you will just be.
How do you make your own sunshine?
Have you heard it takes more muscles to frown? It is true. So, smile. Start with a smile and follow with the tips below. Choose a smile and happiness and sunshine will soon follow.
Managing Your Mind
To start with, you need to realize that your mind holds all the cards. Always has, always will. But you can trump it every single time. You can make the choice to be happy, if you think happy.
You must actively manage your thoughts and filter them. Daily meditation can help you with this. The more mindful you are, the more you can sift through your thoughts and ensure that your mind is a positive place.
And this is going to allow you to be happy the majority of the time.
My meditation comes through prayer. When I pray, I pray for others. Taking the focus off of you and your problems will help you, as well.
Making Choices
You need to make choices that are best for you, your family, and your lifestyle. Life doesn’t happen to you; you are in control. So reflect that in the thoughts you own and the actions you take. Make good choices, at least think about the choices you make. Don’t be hasty. Sit with it a bit.
Expressing Gratitude
Choosing happiness will be easier if you can be thankful every single day. Look for the good in life. Don’t focus on the bad things or let negative thoughts in. Try to control them. Instead, be grateful. Look for things to be thankful for and things that make you smile. And only focus on them. Yes, bad things happen. And they always will. But it’s all about how you choose to let them affect you. Or not!
Acceptance
You also must accept life for what it is. Because if you fight against the things you can’t control, your mind will forever be at war. And there is no reason for that; let it go.
Accept the things you cannot change and work on those that you can. This too shall pass. Learn to eye the blessing in every occasion, in every problem. And remember, what you are going through feels tough, and feels devastating, but it could always be worse. Always.
Fighting Fear
You don’t have to be a superhero to do this. You must realize that if you stay in your comfort zone, nothing will change. So, if you have dreams or there’s something you want to do with your life, you need to ask for it. Go after it. Chase it.
Doing so will cause fear. And self doubt. But don’t listen. You will experience fear, you will be a bit worried, scared, or apprehensive, but do it.
Fear of writing and failure at writing caused me to ignore my life long dream for years. It paralyzed me. When I let go of the fear and worked through it, I found the best happiness ever–I was proud of myself and became the me I always wanted to be.
I found I was more confident, happier than I had ever been. Writing has given me the confidence and freedom to be me–to love being me and to be proud of me, for the first time in my life.
Let go of the fear and get on with the task that is keeping you from happiness. Choose happiness and be brave. And once you achieve your dream and master that fear, you grow. You change.

'When I let go of the fear and worked through it, I found the best happiness ever--I was proud of myself and became the me I always wanted to be.' -dedra davisClick To TweetIt’s really easy to see why some people feel as if they’re never going to be happy. Or that it’s just something super hard, but it is not.
The secret to a happy life is no secret all all. And the best part is, being happy isn’t for the select few. It’s way more simple than that. Happiness, choosing happy, is as easy as smiling and changing your attitude. Turn your frown upside down.
I hope for you a smile everyday. I hope for you–happiness. And I hope you wake up everyday and decide to be happy.

I think these are great points to think about – Daily meditation is an awesome way to re-center yourself. I find that if I can take ten minutes mid-day, it is like a “re-set button” – especially if the pace of the day is starting to wear me down! I always feel better after ten minutes of meditation!

That sounds like a great practice. Happy is a much better way to be. Thank you so much for reading!
