Taking pictures and making memories.
Two years ago, tomorrow, Danni and I left on an adventure across the globe, all by ourselves, to go see Cameron. It is still one of my favorite trips and I think of the fun time the three of us experienced together often.
Cameron was attending Texas Tech University and was doing a study abroad. She left in early September, all by herself without knowing a soul, flew to London, where she joined other college students to study.
She attended Kingston University, southwest London, about a thirty minute train ride outside of London. The university was founded in 1899. She stayed in a dorm with three other dormmates–boys and girls. A few of them did not speak English. She luckily had a bedroom and bathroom all her own.
Danni and I joined her in Kingston, November 1, and that’s when the fun began.
Taking pictures and making memories.
I loved the small, college town. It had a train station, used by Harry Potter (Platform 9 3/4), restaurants, markets, pubs and a university. We spent two and a half days in Kingston, taking the train back and forth to London, before heading to Paris.
We woke up super-duper early, left our hotel with all our luggage, took the train to London and switched trains to take the Chunnel to the “City of Light“.
Getting off the train and finding a cab was an adventure and a story we like to tell about “being taken“. I was referring to spending too much for the private cab and the girls thought I was referring to the movie. We laugh now.
Ah, taking pictures.
Paris was beautiful and I was obsessed with the tour de Eiffel. I took a plethora of pictures of her, at night and during the day. From the cab. While walking. From the boat. And of course while looking down at the city, high up in the clouds, while on the Eiffel Tower.

Paris was a whirlwind visit, only two and a half days, and then back to London for three more days. I want to return one day. “Paris est toujours une bonne idee.”

We first fell in love with London when Mark and I took the kids, in 2002. I knew I wanted to return to that amazing city, and country, and obviously Cameron did, as well. She was blessed to spend four wonderful months there, meeting new friends, having fun, experiencing the culture and the city, traveling, and of course studying. I am happy that Mark and I gave her that experience.
A quote I have grown to love by Patrick Wiltse, “As you immerse yourself in an area over the course of a walk, you form a relationship with that area and your world expands, adding a new piece to the ever growing mosaic of the earth that has passed beneath your feet.”
And I am happy that Danni and I were able to go visit her-real happy about that!
Mark and I dream of returning and exploring more of the country. One day. One fine day. And more taking pictures.
I hope for you travel stories and memories in London and Paris or wherever your dream destination might be.
love and blessings~dd
