Looking at the world through childlike eyes may seem simple and a waste of time, but I believe if you take the time to play, to be childlike, you will smile. You will appreciate your surroundings and regain the simple joy of life.
Babies are innocent and happy, until they meet the pressures of this cruel world. (Or they are tired, hurt, hungry or need a diaper change!)
There are so many unhappy people in this world who have lost their joy. They don’t smile, they don’t laugh. They have lost the ability to have simple joy. I think sometimes the world, and all its busy-ness and negativity, rob us of all our joy.
We are robbed of our childlike eyes when we become adults.
Think of a happy little child, a toddler. Everything is new and fresh. Everything around them is interesting. They reach, and they wonder. They explore all they can. Their brains are like sponges and they absorb all the beauty this world offers.
They see the wonders of the world through childlike eyes.
We need to return our brains to a childlike way and rediscover all the joy that is in front of us. All we must do is open our eyes, let our guard down, and see the world through childlike eyes.
“See the world as if for the first time; see it through the eyes of a child, and you will suddenly find that you are free.”Deepak Chopra
We forget to play.
Remember how wonderful it felt to swing? I used to swing so high, my belly would tickle. Remember that feeling? Swinging is fun and should be a must for adults. I would love to have a porch swing, so that I could regain that feeling.
We forget to open our eyes and see the world with all its beauty.
I have no problem looking around and seeing beauty wherever I am. Especially outside. Nature is remarkable. Nature is alive and if you spend time outdoors, looking at all nature has to offer, you will see the beauty. Use your childlike eyes and relight your curiosity for life. There is beauty in the trees, the flowers, the sky, and the animals. I love to fill my bird feeder and watch the birds from my kitchen window. They flock to it and sing. Do you think they tell all their friends? They must, because they all come as soon as I fill the feeder. The squirrels make me happy, too. I enjoy watching them sit on their hind legs and eat. It’s so cute the way they munch on the seeds. Simple joy. Simple beauty.
We forget to ask questions and wonder.
Have you wondered about anything lately? I google constantly. It is fun to discover the whys and hows of the world. Google is incredible, isn’t it? You can learn about a certain flower or look up aphids on Crepe Myrtles (I recently had to do this!). You can find out how much water tomato plants need, or anything you want to discover. The possibilities are endless. You can also take a class or a workshop. I recently wrote an article about adult workshops available in Waco for the Waco Moms Blog. I got the idea for the article because my daughter and I took a workshop on wine tasting. It was so much fun, we signed up for a second one. Learning something new is a great way to revitalize your life.
We forget to wander freely. To explore. To discover.
Have you explored your backyard lately? Your city or town? Exploring is fun and you almost always learn something new. I love to explore a new city. I also love to explore my own city. There is always something new to my eyes, something new for me to see. I like taking pictures of the world around me and walking around a park, your city, or even your backyard is a fun way discover new things around you.
And sadly, we forget to laugh.
When was the last time you had a good belly laugh? When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried? When was the last time you laughed so much your cheeks hurt? Your sides ached? Well, that’s too long.
