Spring is upon us, and I am dreaming of gardening. It is also a good time to grow a dream. Plant a seed now and nurture your dreams until they are ripe.
It is never too late to start a garden of dreams. Dreams don’t have seasons.
When we take a seed and add all the right elements, with patience, you get what you waited for, and you reap the benefits: a plant, a tree, a yard, or even a dream or goal.
Plant your seed
Planting a seed is a lot like planting a goal. You dream and plan. You work hard, and you nurture it. And if everything happens perfectly, you see your joy and hard work sprout and become a reality.
But, with a seed, sometimes the tree doesn’t grow, sometimes something wasn’t perfect even if you thought you did everything right. Too much water? Not enough? Too much sun or not enough?
Like that failed seed, sometimes the dream does not become a reality. This is the time to decide to try again or give up.
Don’t give up
Don’t give up, but instead fail forward. Try again. And again, if the dream or goal is an important one.
Even a professional farmer loses a seed. He doesn’t give up when he has a bad seed; he goes forward with his garden. Be a farmer and plant more seeds.
Keep planting
I am entering another writing contest. Fail forward, right? This one was even harder, even more of a challenge because this time the book had to be 50 words. And, only 50 words! I found it challenging to tell a story in such a small amount of words.
These challenges are helping me in my writing, in my story-telling. I know you have read a children’s book where most of the story is the illustrations. No words or very little. That is what my story is—a picture book, if you will. (Oh, how I wish I could draw or paint!)
I hope you will enjoy this tiny story. I hope you can see the challenge and the story here:
Let’s Make Lemonade
“How do you make lemonade?”
“First you need patience,” Mom answered. “And a lemon.”
“Patience?”
“Patience is needed while watching the lemon grow from a seed to fruit again.”
“What else do we need?”
A potDirt
Sun
God’s rain.

That’s it in 50 words — a tiny, but a mighty story about patience.
Patience
Yes, patience is something I am learning on the daily during this garden I am planting. I sow the seeds. (write the manuscripts) I edit and edit. (make sure there are no weeds) I add water and sun. (send the manuscripts to my critique groups)
And, I wait.
One day, I will share the news with you about my agent. Some fine day, I will scream about my book when it is a real book. A real, published book. I see this happening. Yes, I can envision it in my mind, heart, and soul. I pray about it.
'Dreams don't have deadlines. Dreams don't have wrinkles.' Dreams don't have seasons either. So dream!Click To TweetMy life-long dream of writing came true five years ago, and I have seen several of my goals and dreams come true. (published newspaper articles, published magazine articles, guest blogs)
I planted those seeds, worked hard, and picked my fruit.
I will pick this children’s book fruit, also.
Thank you for reading and supporting my dreams. I appreciate those that are there for me. Farmers need support. Writer’s do, too. We need to know people believe we can do this as much as we need to believe in ourselves.
Remember, it is never too late to start planting a garden of dreams. Dreams don’t have seasons.
Nurture
Follow your dreams and goals. Nurture them, and they will become a reality! Nurture your dreams, and they will take root. Dream your garden today!
I hope for you the knowledge and patience to see your dreams through. Plant that garden. Sow those seeds. Do the work. Fail Forward.
