When we help others, by supporting them, we help ourselves. Giving support and nurture to creatives, watering them, we help them build a future. We help them grow into a tree. We help grow a forest. By doing this, our own success will follow.
This is a story of a little acorn, dreams, support and nurture. and a future forest.
“Dreams are the seeds of change. Nothing ever grows without a seed, and nothing ever changes without a dream.” Debby Boone
This weekend, and all spring long, I have been getting my hands dirty. Although I actually hate getting my hands dirty, literally, I do love the aftermath. The finished product. I love the outcome of hard work.
You do what you must do to get the outcome you want.
Side note—When I say I don’t like to get my hands dirty, I mean it. I hate getting my hands dirty. It literally bothers me. The same goes for my feet. I learned a few years ago, my mom is the same. This shocked me because she is always cooking, baking, and has always had a beautiful yard. She does what she must, to enjoy the finished product. I learned this from her. I wash my hands often when I am outside working. I do it because I have a love of plants. I hate the feel of dirt on my hands, but I also would hate not having any plants.
A story of a little acorn…
This little tree amazed me. I pulled it out of a flower-pot I was about to reuse, and I found this acorn. I was going to discard this “weed” and replace it with a beautiful, new flower. I was going to throw this “weed” away, until I saw this precious little acorn.
It amazed me. I know acorns grow trees. I know acorns are seeds. But I didn’t know it hung on to the sapling like this. It was still alive. Green. It was supporting the tiny tree it had sprouted. I couldn’t discard this little acorn and its dream to become a tree.
This little acorn buried itself, with the help of a bird, or a squirrel, or whatever means, but it was most certainly by God. It had a dream. A dream of becoming a big tree one day. I can’t deny its dream.
I re-potted the sapling and I will support and nurture it until I can plant her in our yard. I will help this little acorn fulfill her dream.
Grow a forest.
I even named this little tree. Her name is Joani, after a friend of mine who supported me in my writing.
Are you a little acorn with a big dream? Who is helping you become a tree?
This reminded me of this quote by an unknown author:
“The mightiest oak in the forest is just a little nut that held its ground”

Are you a little acorn with a big dream? Who is helping you become a tree? #dedradaviswrites Share on XWho supports you?
I have many who support me and my writing. And without their support, I couldn’t continue to write. I wouldn’t have the confidence or the drive to write again.
Think of it as water. Water for our trees. When you read my blog, you are watering my little tree. The dream, the tree, grows with support and nurture from you. When you buy from a small shop, when you buy from an Etsy creative, you are supporting and watering their dream. When you go to a restaurant, owned by an individual, a mom and pop shop, you are supporting their dream. You are keeping their little sapling alive.
You are helping. Grow a forest.
You may not realize it, or even consider this, but its true.
If you are reading this blog, I thank you. If you follow my blog, if you are on my email list, I thank you. You are watering my tiny sapling and you are keeping it alive. You are keeping my dream alive. And for that, I thank you.
Have a dream? I hope you have others supporting and nurturing you. I would like to water your little tree by supporting you and your dream. I know what that feels like and I like to spread the love.
Joani taught me a lot, but it wasn’t until she passed away that I learned, from her, to love relentlessly and to teach what you know. She did both of these things for me and for many others. Support, love, teach. Grow a forest.
Nurture your acorn until it can grow into a tree.
Another side note—I was writing this blog, outside on my back porch. I was enjoying writing on a beautiful spring day. It started sprinkling. I must wonder—is that God watering me (a little acorn)? Is that God watering my dream?
I hope for you big dreams and little acorns. I hope for you people to surround you with love and to water you, so you may become a big tree in a little forest. I also hope, in return, you will become the gardener who waters others. Grow a forest.
