As we near Thanksgiving, still eating our Halloween candy, I am thinking of what and who I am thankful for, and that has me thinking of Thanksgiving quotes.
I am a lover of quotes.
In this blog post, I will be quoting many greats, possibly some you’ve never heard of, and even a few from me. Some quotes will be about fall, some will be Thanksgiving quotes, and some quotes will be about being thankful. Because we all need to remember to be grateful everyday, not just in November.
Two years ago, I wrote a blog post about my favorite fall quotes. It is still one of my most read blogs.
(And, if you are following me on my journey to becoming a published children’s book author, there is a bonus at the end of this post! A HalloWeenteam surprise!)
“I love Halloween. I love Thanksgiving. I love Christmas. I love New Year’s.” -Madelaine Petsch
Thanksgiving, to me, is the front door, if you will, of the holidays. Sorry, Halloween.
Don’t get me wrong–I like Halloween. The fun, the candy, the season. The season! Fall is a special time of year. Pumpkins, leaves, cooler weather, family, football, eating!
And, what is better than a Thanksgiving quote? Enjoy!
The colors fall
‘In fall, I think the world comes alive, not like being woken up in spring, but alive with color, alive with beauty.’ -dedra davis
The colors of fall are stunning. In Texas, we only get a splattering of fall color. That might be why I love it so much. Crave it. Because we don’t get spoiled with all the brilliant colors of autumn in central Texas.
I don’t think of the leaves as dying. Instead, I think of them as dancing a beautiful dance to the ground. And some, some fall leaves continue the dancing after they hit the ground. They dance, they twirl and spin like the loveliest of ballerinas.
“Leaves grow old gracefully, bring such joy in their last lingering days. How vibrant and bright is their final flurry of life.” -Karen Gibbs
Thanksgiving quotes
“Forever on Thanksgiving Day, the heart will find the pathway home.” Wilber D. Nesbit.
I hope you are right, Mr. Nesbit, because I always want to be full of family. Thanksgiving Day, to me, means being full. Full of blessings, family, and yes—full stomachs full of delicious foods.
“Thanksgiving dinners take eighteen hours to prepare. They are consumed in twelve minutes. Half-times take twelve minutes. This is not coincidence.” -Erma Bombeck
And because we need more Erma quotes.
“I come from a family where gravy is considered a beverage.” -Erma Bombeck
“What we’re really talking about is a wonderful day set aside on the fourth Thursday of November when no one diets. I mean, why else would they call it Thanksgiving?” -Erma Bombeck
“The turkey. The sweet potatoes. The stuffing. The pumpkin pie. Is there anything else we all can agree so vehemently about? I don’t think so.” –Nora Ephron
“Thanksgiving is the meal we aspire for other meals to resemble.” -Jonathan Safran Foer
“After a good dinner, one can forgive anybody, even one’s own relations.” -Oscar Wilde
And–because Thanksgiving is truly about more than food, here are quotes about being thankful.
“What if, today, we were grateful for everything?” –Charlie Brown
Pretty smart, Charlie Brown. We all should think this way daily!
And, that’s not all–keep reading if you want more Thanksgiving quotes…

Well, that is all the Thanksgiving quotes! I hope they brought you joy. And reminded you to be thankful daily.
And now for the bonus!
I entered The 9th Annual Halloweensie Writing Contest
The rules: write a 100-word Halloween story appropriate for children (children here defined as 12 and under), using the words potion, cobweb, and trick.
These contests give children’s book writers a big challenge. Most children’s picture books are approximately 500 words. That is difficult. This contest is a real challenge at 100 words. The story still needs characters, a story arc, and a good ending. All in 100 words!
Please, tell me in the comments what you think. If you know me, you might recognize the characters! And thanks for reading!!
HalloWeenteam
By Dedra Davis
(Word count-99)
The Weenteam discussed costumes for Halloween while chewing bones.
“Bacon and eggs!” yelped Martha.
“Nope, last year.” Charli spouted.
“King and queen?”
“You buried the scepter! Think!”
They did their best thinking while chewing.
Chomp. Crunch. Chomp Chomp.
“Nut and squirrel?”
“Maybe… Or, a spider and cobweb. But how?” Charli pondered.
“Hotdogs!?”
“Nope, too obvious. Think outside the box!”
“Did you say a box of treats?”
“Seriously, Martha! I want lots of tricks with our treats this year!”
“Lotions and potions?”
This only got a glare.
“Martha, what is long and low like us?”
“Dill Pickles!!!”, they yapped together!
THE END
Well, that was short, huh? Tell me what you think in my comments!
I hope for you lots of Thanksgiving-fullness, and I hope you remember daily to be thankful. And I hope you enjoyed the Thanksgiving quotes!
love and blessings~dd
