Waco is where I live, love, and write. Traveling to Waco? Read about all the places you need to see while in Wacotown. I haven’t written about my small urban town, on my blog, in a bit, so today I will remedy that.
I write an article once a month for Waco Moms Blog. I love being a contributing writer because I get to continue writing about Waco and that makes me happy.
When I say continue it is because I started my writing career four and a half years ago at a small newspaper in Waco. It was perfect for me because it was small, and I had complete control over my articles.
This also just happened to be about the same time Waco was exploding in growth and exploding in front of the world due to a little TV show we all know and love.
So, what I wrote about was a lot of small businesses starting in Wacotown. Some of these small shops are now enormous names in Waco.
I was able to explore and fall in love with this new Waco while writing about it. And at the same time, exploring and falling in love with the new me—the writer.
Being the oldest mom on the Waco Moms Blog team might bother me, but it doesn’t. I occasionally write about being a mom and wife, but most of the time, I write fun articles about Wacotown.
When I write about being a mom, an empty nester or a wife, I bring a different aspect to motherhood than the other moms on the team have. Different, because I have raised my three twenty-somethings, survived, and am now living a whole new life with my husband and our dogs. And, my writing.
Writing has made me a whole new person. Coincidentally, Waco is a whole new town. We are both growing and changing and forming new assets and captivating points of interest.
So, in this blog post, I am going to list some great new places here—my go-to’s. And I will link to articles I have written for Waco Moms Blog that I believe if you are interested in Waco, you will love to read.
Eat in Waco
My two favorite restaurants are Moroso Wood-Fired Pizza and Milo All Day. Both are great dining experiences and have amazing food. And amazing owners. I wrote about Moroso’s two years ago when they opened, for the newspaper I worked for, and again as a “best pizza in Waco” article for WMB. I have also written about Milo many times including this article for WMB.
My favorite places to grab a cup of joe are listed here. These are coffee bars, not coffee shops or restaurants. You might be able to get a pastry at these places, but you can’t sit down and get a full meal. I like to write at these places. I write at Pinewood more than the others because it is about a mile from my house. They have moved since I wrote the article and now have their own brick and mortar on Austin Avenue. Wacotown is blessed with good coffee.
If you know me, you know I love eating and drinking with friends and family outside. Alfresco. I don’t know why I live in Texas because I only get approximately two months of the year when I can do this, maybe. Perhaps this is why I love it so?
I list all the great outside, al fresco, soak up the sun places in this article titled Waco Dining Alfresco Style. If you are here during one of those two months, you must visit the places listed. Trust me.
Drink in Waco
I love my wine, and I love to go to wine bars with my friends. In Waco, we have several choices. But, my all-time favorite is Waco Wine Shoppe. This is one of the places I like to go to when the weather is perfect because you can sit outside and enjoy your wine.
So, if you are interested in wine bars, I wrote a complete list of wine bars in Waco, for WMB, you can read here. One addition since the article was published is Waco Winery Tasting Room and rooftop patio, located on Austin Avenue. You must go when the weather is right, so you can sit outside on their patio overlooking downtown. The only thing I would change is turning the building, so I could see the Alico building. Oh well…
Shop in Waco
While you’re at the Waco Winery Tasting Room, go to my favorite heart-swoon shop located below-called Linen and Cake. This new Wacotown shop is a must-see. This shop is Anthropologie meets antiques meets pillows and rugs. I die. I die every time I go in. And this leads me to my next article called Walking Waco-Shopping and Exploring Small Shops in Waco.
Waco has so much more than Magnolia. Don’t get me wrong—I love Magnolia Market. I swoon just like everyone else. But, there is more. So much more! Read these two articles to see where I shop small in Waco.
I wrote a featured article about my other favorite store in Waco called Gather. Think kitchen store meets bar cart meets glassware and dishes—Waco-made dishes from Black Oak Art (as seen on Fixer Upper). This is a store that will prepare you for a dinner party. They sell everything a hostess or host needs except the food and flowers.
Back to drinks, I wrote an article telling you where to go for drinks in Waco. If you want a margarita—go here. If you want a cold beer—go here. You have to read the article to find out the wheres!
Enjoy Waco
Another place to visit here is The Waco Hippodrome. Great historical theater and restaurant. Movies where you can eat and drink, and afterward, or before, head up to their third floor open-air bar. You can see all of Austin Avenue, Magnolia Market, and beyond. You must see the view of the Alico building from up there!
